Tips to stay present during your wedding day

Your wedding day, something that may have been long awaited, planned for a longggg time, so many intricate details planned out by you. I think we can agree that a whole lotta work goes into your wedding day, and I think we can also agree that you should be able to ENJOY it. Wedding days go by hella quick, let me tell ya, so here’s some tips to keep you present in your day, and make sure you savour the moments instead of watching the timeline.

1. Ignore the photographer

Hell ya I said it! I don’t mean ignore them when they speak, I mean ignore them being present in the room, let them be a fly on the wall and let your day unfold as if they weren’t even there. Read that emotional letter from your partner like you are alone, hug your mom when she is overjoyed to see you in your dress on your big day. Trust your photographer to capture the subtle moments without you having to tell them. Don’t look directly at the camera and hold a smile as you walk down the aisle, instead focus on your partner, smile at them, and look into their eyes - those are probably going to be some of your favourite photos.

2. Give yourself a little extra time

I’ve been to so many weddings where people say “we had so much time and then all of a sudden it went by so quick.” That’s usually how it goes, so why not add in a little buffer time to spend having a moment with your girls, share some jokes with your friends, or spending a moment with your grandma. Those are the moments you are going to remember.

3. Take a moment to yourselves

Things go by pretty dang quickly on a wedding day, so make sure you take a moment just the two of you when you get a chance. Hell, take two, or even three!!! Take some time at your first look (one of the big reasons I love these), right after your ceremony before you go back to see your guests, or some random time during dinner, escape the room and take a moment. Don’t forget what this day is all about, let it sink in that you just got MARRIED! Hells ya!!!

Being present and in the moment IS what is going to create those candid, natural photos. Don’t focus on how you should look, or “am I doing this right,” because if you are just you, enjoying the moment with your partner, being PRESENT, those photos will be there later to bring you back to those exact moments and feelings.
